A wired bra that is too small in the cup will always dig into your flesh. This is not just uncomfortable, it’s dangerous.
Wire digging into breast tissue can damage the ducts and delicate tissues in this area. This is imperative to know when breast feeding, and may be important after breast surgery.
Many ladies permanently switch to a non wire bras because they find wired bras dig in somewhere – either under the arms, or into the bust.
This digging in does not have to happen if you follow some important steps.
Remember, just because the bra goes around you, and does up, does not mean its fits you. ‘Fitting’ is about having the cup EXACTLY cradle the breast – not too small, and not too big.
Under your arms, the wire should meet the precise point where the bust tissue stops, and you can see and feel your ribs.
On your sternum, the bra must allow for your bust to be gently but clearly separated. If the wire comes in before the cleavage, you risk that painful digging in the centre of your chest.
Some ladies worry a lot about what clip to do the bra up at the back. Please, forget this matter. The adjustable back is there to give freedom to meet varying rib widths on differently shaped bodies. There is no back rule – it’s the front where you have to take care.
When you are trying on bras, it can be a good idea to try a cup size up or down. One cup size can make a big difference, and you will see and get to FEEL what an exact fit is.
Easy ways to spot a wired bra that is going to be uncomfortable:
- Pressure on the bust tissue under the arms
- Squashed cleavage
- Wire reaching high into the arm pit or past the breast onto rib bones
- Wire pointing inwards at the sternum.
