A Camisole is a light underlayer worn for good looks, modesty or warmth. And it will make your outer clothing last longer. How? Wearing something between your skin and your top protects against underarm stains, and ensures your top is not in contact with the skin all day – this avoids sweat and wear and tear. Yes, camisoles really work.

A cami also does a great job to hide your bra when wearing a sheer blouse, and the cami will also smooth out your bra lines under a tightish top, tee or pullover. Yes, a camisole is classy AND clever.
And pretty. They are usually designed with elegant thin straps, and a touch of lace, and light and delicate fabrics. What’s not to love? Choose from cotton, silk or microfibre. There are floaty and loose options for hot weather, or figure hugging lycra to smooth out lines.

Is a camisole a singlet? No. A singlet is the old classic cotton underlayer that is cool in summer and warm in winter. Nothing pretty to see here. Just your basic cotton. Still good, and has its place. Although, a singlet does not have to be thick and lumpy. Quality, thin, jersey cottons make great light layers for travelling, and between seasons.
Our singlets and camis are also available in wool (see the our All Year Round Dressing for more information about wool underlayers)
