Bonded Bras – get them on!

Maybe this is the bra you’ve been waiting for all your life. It won’t set the world on fire with looks, in fact it’s a rather androgynous affair, with not a shred of lace or bows or stitching. The bonded bra is the water cracker of biscuits…no fancy extras…plain, often colourless, and unadorned. It’s a new tech thing, where two layers of fabrics are fused (or bonded) to save on stitching, added bands, elastic layers, or wire inserts.

The end result is a nearly liquid flow of fabric over your body. Unfussy support in a silky, quite invisible undergarment. What’s not to love about a bonded bra…well…they aren’t Monte Carlos or macarons…they are usually nude or black, often with wide straps (can peek out in summer outfits). As there is no stitching, they do need careful washing care to stay in shape (i.e they won’t last as long as a sewn bra).

Important fact: Most bonded bras have padding – a circle – which can be bonded in, or float loose in a pocket. If you find removable circles a pain, look for styles which have locked in padding. Or if you want to dispense with the padding, look for pocketed styles.
